The Game Changer & Life After Shred
10 days ago when I started the 10 Shred I had never taken any of the Juice PLUS products. I HAD tried many different protein powders and supplements from different sources ranging from Central Market, Nature’s Sunshine, Sprouts and Whole foods. I have yet to find ONE that my daughter will drink, so I end up finishing them all myself. I can honestly say that between them, there weren’t many differences. I usually try vanilla because it’s the only flavor I really like. I will either drink them plain/with nothing added or blended with fruit. I have tried this as a meal replacement for breakfast and evenings. I always find myself hungry shortly after and this is a dangerous position for an over-eater/binge eater like myself.
If you read my introduction, then you know I have not been successful with long-term weight loss or what I call REAL weight loss. Because I never found a way for the shakes to satisfy me, I never developed any healthy habits from them. Over the years I tried many fad diets and came to the same conclusion with each one. ANYTHING that deprives you and seriously limits you will not work long term and if you are not going to commit to a regular exercise routine, you will also not find lasting results or proper good health. We all know that THIN isn’t always healthy.
SO why try again? Knowledge! I have continued to search not just for products (what I like to call TOOLS!) but for like-minded individuals who I could learn from (SUPPORT!). I’d scoured the internet and seen and read a lot of things that encouraged me, but it’s not the same as having someone to talk to about your struggles who can offer real solutions as well as accountability. I felt like this would really change things for me and I felt that even though I had yet to find what worked for me, I would eventually.
I met Addy through a mutual friend because we were all starting our families. In sharing our desires I was excited she had the same ideas about how to raise a healthy family and found we had similar goals. She shared JuicePLUS with me and all the ways it’s changed her life as well as places I could find information about their products and the studies that have been performed on them from a wide range of reputable sources.
One thing I loved immediately was that I wouldn’t be taking a supplement of all the vitamins and minerals I needed, but capsules of actual food. Not just SUPPLEMENTING my food but the benefits of taking the WHOLE FOOD! They also had the COMPLETE drink mix which could help me control my intake as well as provide whole-food-based nutrition. All I needed to do was try and see how my body would react. Their Creating Powerful Lives Website had all the instructions I needed to get started as well as recipes and ideas to help me.
I would LOVE to say that I was able to follow the Shred10 guidelines to the letter, but I am the mother of a 4-year-old who is changing daily! This included a major sleep regression that started the week before Shred10 and is still a dark cloud over this house! There were many late nights and early naps for me that made consistency very challenging and at times, impossible. My ray-of-light was having Addy to encourage me and remind me that I needed to do this ESPECIALLY when I was depleted elsewhere. That it was not about PERFECTION but PERSISTENCE. After the 3rd day, I noticed my energy level had more staying power despite how sleep deprived I was. This benefit became more and more noticeable as the week went on. I had less than 4 hours of sleep for several days in a row. This usually brings me my knees. I am still shocked I get to report the kind of energy level I had.
Another awesome surprise was the shakes. Obviously, I’m dense because I never thought to freeze the fruit for my smoothies! UM, GAME CHANGER! This is helpful NOT just for the food prep advantage, but also to help food waste. I HATE to waste food. I also hate to eat overripe fruit! Usually, I take the waste to my Dad’s chickens but when I can’t they go to the landfill. NOW I will just freeze it and blend it! I would NEVER eat a ripe banana (you can ask Addy about our great banana debate!) and apples often make me slightly nauseous when I eat them alone. However, in a shake, frozen apple slices and bananas give it an ice-creamy texture that was sooooo satisfying and my tummy didn’t notice the apples at all. I had no problem waiting for my next meal and never had to snack which HAS NEVER HAPPENED TO ME! It also satisfied my sweet tooth. That’s a major advantage.
I made the same meals I usually make for my family and found substitutions when needed to keep it in the guidelines so that I could make lasting changes. My final weigh in was 255 pounds making my total weight loss 7 pounds in 10 days. I haven’t seen the 250’s in a while! Not only did the scale move, but I feel better. I feel more energetic and more positive.
I am more hopeful for my future and the success of this journey now than ever before. I am not going to stop. I have bloodwork again in 2 months so I am sticking with this. I’m excited to SEE results from the inside out!
